PX Story:  Autumn Plot – What I like about being in Parson Cross

Lyn and Ania at PX Story Autumn Plot

PX Story Autumn: Plot took place on 29th September between 8-11am. PX story occupied a plot at the Car Boot Sale at Chaucer School (Wordsworth Avenue,
Sheffield, S5 8NH) near ASDA and opposite the Learning Zone in Parson Cross.

This was peoples chance to buy first drafts of PX Stories (starting at 5p per story), collect their free badge and contribute more tales to the growing PX collection. Ania Bas invited artists Charlie Hill and myself to explore the notion of PLOT from our perspectives and through our practices.

My contribution to the event – What I like about being in Parson Cross

I attended the PX Story Summer Heros event and enjoyed listening to the Bush Family talking about living on Parson Cross. This encouraged me to want to hear more stories about what people liked about being in Parson Cross.

I thought about why people come to car boot sales and thought that they were looking for a bargain.  I decided that I would create pieces of art that I could exchange with people in return for a sketch of what they liked about being in Parson Cross.

What I like about being Parson cross

I visited Parson Cross and had a good look around to see what I liked about being there.  The thing that immediately struck me was how green the area is and how close to the countryside it is.  I was also delighted by the wild flower meadows that have been sown on some of the green spaces.  I took photos of these and then used them as my inspiration.  I created signed limited editions of 100 potato prints using acryllic paint.

I took 32 of these to the car boot sale. On the day I offered people a free copy of one of these prints if they sketched for me.

I managed to exchange all the prints for sketches and had many interesting conversations with people over them.  I am currently considering what I am going to do with them.  Ideas include producing a song, a blog or an art piece.

I have produced a song using the words and sketches given to me by participants.  I am now practicing this with two other singers to sing it in 3 part harmony country and western style.

Here are some of the sketches and comments people made on the day.
